Homowo

We selected the Homowo Festival, celebrated by the Ga peoples of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, to represent a room because it symbolizes triumph and renewal over adversity. Its origins lie in collective efforts to starve off famine, and through this collective spirit, it has spawned norms that continue to ensure the sustenance and rejuvenation of communities. Homowo, roughly translated, means “hooted at hunger”; and its yearly celebration symbolizes the rebirth and regeneration of the Ga community year after year.
